Transitions to Literacy is a state-of-the-art literacy-skills development program for emergent readers in grades pre-K, K, and 1. It combines traditional hard-bound print materials and the latest interactive digital technology, along with the very effective comprehension assessment tool—the Accelerated Reader®.

Digital Components

Transitions to Literacy interactive e-books were developed to help beginning readers transition into independent reading. Digital features are carefully matched to emergent literacy goals and the zone of proximal development (ZPD) range of children in grades pre-K, K, and 1. Every title combines high interest non-fiction subject matter, very low reading level text, and strong photo-text correlation.

About Accelerated Reader®

The Accelerated Reader® (AR) is an extremely time-efficient and effective method of assessing comprehension. Children are able to take the AR quizzes independently and track the points they earn. They enjoy and are motivated by interaction with the AR program. The Accelerated Reader® gives teachers working with Transitions to Literacy the chance to easily monitor the amount and quality of reading completed by each child.

The ATOS™ system is used in the Accelerated Reader®. The books in the Transitions to Literacy Program were written to meet the requirements of the lowest levels of the ATOS™ readability formula. The result is engaging books that reflect the natural way young children think and speak, which makes it easier for them to decode and comprehend. Every book is written at the 0.7 – 0.9 ATOS™ readability level.
